Warn other motorists of the accident by using vehicle breakdown signs, lights, reflectors. What About Making Own Damage (OD) Accident Claims?
There are two types of OD accident claims in Singapore; the comprehensive claim and the third-party claim.
The comprehensive claim is basically claiming from your own insurer if you hold a valid comprehensive car insurance coverage. The process is simple: inform your car insurer immediately, fill up and submit the MAR Form to your car insurance company. Next, send your damaged vehicle to any of the stated workshops in your car insurance policy or your own preferred workshop if you had purchased the preferred workshop add on.
From here out the car insurance company will send an independent adjuster to assess the damages and negotiate the repair cost. Once an agreement is made, the car insurer will authorise the repairs. Once the repairs are completed, you are to sign a satisfactory voucher and clear any excess amount that you have to bear before releasing the vehicle. The remaining repair cost is covered by the car insurance company. In any case, if you experience any issues with the repairs, inform the car insurance company so that they can withhold the repair payments before the issues are resolved.
The third-party claim is only viable when the accident is caused by someone else and you are making a claim from his car insurance policy. The procedures are informing your car insurer about the incident, then contact the third-party. The third-party car insurer may ask for more information and may send a surveyor to assess the damages to your vehicle. Upon completion of the checks, the car insurance company will offer to settle the claim if it is legitimate. By accepting it, you have to sign a claims discharge form acknowledging your acceptance.
